Abstract:   (983 Views)
Based on the experimental and numerical data, the percent error of the common methods used to calculate the impeller trim based on the capacity-head curve of centrifugal pumps is investigated. Therefore, a centrifugal pump manufactured by Pumpiran Co. is tested based on the ISO 9906 standard to predict the percent error of the Gulich method and Lobanoff method. Afterward, for simulating the three-dimensional turbulent fluid flow, numerical analysis based on CFD is performed by ANSYS-Fluent software. The obtained numerical results are in acceptable agreement with the corresponding experimental results. In addition, capacity-head values are calculated using the common theoretical methods for impeller trims of 5%, 10%, 20%, and 40%. The results show that in Gulich's method, the maximum percent error of head calculation for trims greater than 10%, and for flow rates above 1.2 times the best efficiency point is -13%. However, the percent error of the Lobanoff method in high flow rates and trims is evaluated to be more than 90%.
Due to the importance of impeller trimming effect on hydraulic performance of centrifugal pumps, and in order to reduce the error of conventional methods, a new relationship is presented to calculate the amount of impeller trimming.
